Best AI Girlfriend Apps in 2026: 7 We Actually Tested
We chatted with every app below ourselves, on a free account or the guest mode each app offers, using the same opening lines. We counted how many messages the free plan really gives you and wrote down every price from the app's own pricing page. Here is how they stack up.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Unlimited free chat | Unlimited messages (we sent 52) | $5.95/mo | 8.0 | Visit | |
| 2 | Best memory, discreet billing | 20 messages a day + 200 Moments | $19.99/mo | 7.2 | Visit | |
| 3 | Fast texting and cheapest yearly plan | 15 demo messages, no signup | $19.99/mo | 7.1 | Visit | |
| 4 | Photos, voice calls and video | 5 replies as a guest, more coins on signup | $19.99/mo | 6.9 | Visit | |

| 6 | Tuning how your companion writes | 10 messages a day, 30 coins | $15/mo | 6.5 | Visit | |

Scores are out of 10: chat quality 40%, free plan 20%, value for money 20%, features 10%, privacy and billing honesty 10%. How we test.
1. SpicyChat: Unlimited free chat

SpicyChat is the only app we tested where the free plan is a real plan: we sent 26 messages as a guest and 26 more on a free account and never saw a limit or a queue. It is a huge library of user-made characters (the counter said about 380,000) rather than one polished girlfriend, so quality depends on the bot you pick. Pictures and voice replies are paid.
Good
- Unlimited text chat on the free plan, no card, guest chat in about 10 seconds
- Cheapest paid plan of any app here ($5.95/mo)
- Huge character library, plus a free and detailed character creator
- Self-serve account deletion; pays by card, Alipay, Cash App, Venmo or Bitcoin
Not so good
- Images in chat need the $19.95 plan, voice replies the $29.95 plan
- Replies take 7–11 seconds and arrive in one block
- Quality varies a lot between user-made bots; one forgot our name
- Free model loops if you repeat yourself
2. Secrets AI: Best memory, discreet billing

Secrets AI had the sharpest memory in our test: it recalled our name, our job, what happened at work and, later, the name of our cat. The free plan is 20 messages a day plus 200 "Moments" for verifying your email (about four pictures). Replies come in short, natural bubbles. It also states the name on your bank statement up front: "S LABS INC".
Good
- Best memory in our test, down to small details
- 20 free messages a day, plus 200 free Moments after email verification
- Natural texting style, replies in a few seconds
- Says exactly what shows on your statement ("S LABS INC")
Not so good
- Hard stop at 20 messages, then a 24-hour wait
- Steers toward paid photos mid-conversation
- Free accounts can't buy Moments; pictures and video need a plan
- Verification email went to our spam folder
3. Muah AI: Fast texting and cheapest yearly plan

Muah lets you chat before you sign up: the demo gave us 15 messages with no account, replies came back in 1–5 seconds, and its default girlfriend passed our memory test. Voice notes were free in the demo. The yearly VIP plan works out to $5.83 a month, the cheapest paid option we found; monthly it's $19.99.
Good
- 15 messages with no signup at all
- Fastest replies alongside DarLink (1–5 seconds)
- Passed our memory test
- Free voice messages in the demo; yearly VIP is $5.83/mo
Not so good
- We never received the email sign-in link (asked three times)
- A waiting room put us at position ~1,100 on the pay page
- Replies are shorter and more texting-style than OurDream or SpicyChat
- Settings screen displays your IP address
4. OurDream AI: Photos, voice calls and video

OurDream had the best-written replies in our test and the most features: voice calls, video, images and a choice of chat models. Its companion remembered both our name and what we'd said about our day. The free taste is short, though: as a guest the sixth reply came back blurred behind "Sign up to unlock", and the paid plan starts at $19.99 a month.
Good
- Best writing in our test: long, in-character replies with real plot
- Passed our memory test (name and story)
- Voice calls, video, images and seven chat models in one app
- You can chat as a guest without any signup
Not so good
- Guests get 5 replies before the chat is locked
- $19.99/mo is double SpicyChat's entry price (the yearly plan halves it)
- Explicit thumbnails on the browse page the moment you pass the age gate
- Our signup email was refused without any error message
5. Nectar AI: Cheapest yearly plan, long roleplay

Nectar AI is a roleplay-first app: you pick a scenario character from a big community library and get long, novel-style replies within a few seconds. Its memory test answer was one of the most detailed we got. The free plan is short (15 messages, and no credits for pictures), but the yearly Premium plan, $4.99 a month, is the cheapest paid plan of any app we tested.
Good
- Cheapest paid plan we tested: $4.99/mo billed yearly
- Long, in-character roleplay replies in 4–7 seconds
- Remembered our name, job and story in detail
- Signup is just an email code, no password or card
Not so good
- Only 15 free messages, and the reset time isn't shown
- Free accounts get 0 credits, so no free pictures
- Pricing page is hidden until you sign up
- No self-serve account deletion: you email support
6. GirlfriendGPT: Tuning how your companion writes

GirlfriendGPT (from the same company as SpicyChat) gives you 10 free messages a day and 30 coins to spend on pictures. Its companion passed our memory test and writes long, novel-style replies, and a settings screen lets you choose reply length, point of view and how explicit it gets. Replies were slow on the free model, about 25–35 seconds.
Good
- 10 free messages every day, plus ways to earn more
- Passed our memory test with details
- Pick reply length, point of view, style and explicitness per chat
- Free coins for your first images; free character creation
Not so good
- Slowest replies we measured: 25–35 seconds on the free model
- Context fills fast on free ("Context Limit Reached" after 10 messages)
- Voice is locked on free even if you have coins
- Cookie banner has no reject button
7. DarLink AI: Building your own character

DarLink answers fast (about 2 seconds) and has one of the most detailed character creators we tried, and creating a character was free. The free chat is the tightest in our test: the paywall said "You've reached 5 free messages" on our second message, because greetings from chats the site opened by itself counted too. You do get 3 free images a day.
Good
- Fastest replies we measured (about 2 seconds)
- Very detailed character creator, free to use
- 3 free AI images every day
- Self-serve account deletion; crypto accepted on yearly plans
Not so good
- Paywall on our second message: auto-opened greetings count toward the 5 free messages
- No age check at signup at all
- Featured characters come with heavy pre-written scenarios
- Refunds only within 24 hours, at their discretion
Also checked, not ranked
We tried to make a free account on these too but couldn't get one that works, so we haven't scored them. What we could check is in each page.
- CrushOn AI: Guests can't send a single message, and the signup refused both of our email addresses as "temporary". Paid from $5.99/mo.
- Candy AI: Guests can't send a message, and the signup was refused twice ("We're unable to complete your registration at this time"). Paid from $13.99/mo.
Quick answers
Is there a free AI girlfriend app that is actually free?
Every app here lets you start without paying, but the free plans are very different. Some cut you off after a handful of messages, others let you keep chatting with slower replies or ads. The "Free plan (what we got)" column above is what we hit in our own test accounts, not what the landing page promises.
Which AI girlfriend app has the best memory?
We tell every companion our name and one detail about our day in the first message, then ask about both a few messages later. The reviews say which apps remembered and which made something up.
Are AI girlfriend apps safe and private?
Treat anything you type as stored on the company's servers. Use an email you don't mind being tied to the app, look for a "delete account" option before you pay, and check the name that will show up on your card statement (we list it where the checkout page shows it).
Can I cancel anytime?
All the subscriptions we tested are cancelled from the account or billing page, and you keep access until the period you paid for ends. Yearly plans are the cheapest per month but are charged in one go, so try the monthly plan or the free plan first.
